JUST

JUST is my concept for the 2019 IDEC Competition. Students were given specific guidelines and a floor plan.

JUST is a center for the homeless where they can acquire basic needs. Not to get it confused with a shelter, this center provides amenities such as a laundry facility, showers, a living room, outdoor space to relax, and just space where they are treated like a person.

The 2019 IDEC Competition guidelines asked students to provide a unique center offering public bathrooms, private bathrooms with showers, a pet area for pets to be groomed, a living room, reception/administration area for staff, laundry facilities, and an outdoor space.

The JUST center focuses on equity. When you treat people equally, you are providing them with the same thing and aiming to promote fairness, but that only works when everyone has the same starting point and problem. Equity, on the other hand, will provide people with what they need to be successful, everyone is different and has different needs. Equality is giving the same input, while equity is giving the same result.

JUST aims to provide each individual a comforting and welcoming experience.
