SEELEY

In January of 2019, the President of the University of Bridgeport approached its Junior Interior Design students with a project. To redesign part of two residence halls (Seeley & Barnum) for the incoming freshmen students in the Fall since those two halls will be dominantly freshmen.

My partner, Jasmine L., and I worked on Seeley Hall and its Game Room on the 1st floor and Lounge Area on the 2nd floor. Our concept was to design spaces that attracted more students, since both rooms were not getting that much attention from the students.

We proposed products and materials that were upbeat, vibrant so that it embraces every student that walks through the space.

We also hoped to establish better morning, afternoon or nightly rituals and issue more effective routine habits. Most students do their work in their dorm rooms, but with our design, maybe friends will meet up on the 'study and quiet side' of the lounge area every Tuesday evening to do homework as a weekly routine, then can go to the entertainment side of the lounge afterwards to catch up on their favorite show.
